For over forty years the Wellman Golf Club welcomed members and the public to play golf on its 18-hole golf course. In 2010, however, the Wellman Golf Club’s owner filed for bankruptcy protection and the golf course has been closed since then. Florence County purchased the golf course property in 2020, and in 2021 entered into a 50-year ground lease with the City of Johnsonville for the purpose of the City’s construction and operation of a public golf course. Rees Jones and Bryce Swanson worked with the City to restore and enhance the old Wellman Golf Club course to an 18-hole championship course that will attract locals, golf tourists as well as amateur and professional golf associations and organizations to hold their tournaments at the Wellman Golf Club.

Part-Time Cart Attendant
Wellman Golf Club is looking for a part-time cart attendant. Must be available to work up to 30 hours per week including weekends between the hours of 6am and 10pm. Rate of pay is $8 per hour. Duties include: bringing golf carts out in the morning and throughout the day, washing carts and returning them to the cart barn in the evening, greeting golfers and helping load bags, being a “starter” to make sure tee times stay on schedule, being a “marshall” to assure golfers are following course rules and playing at a proper pace, emptying trash cans on the golf course, keeping water coolers and ice coolers fresh and filled, picking up balls from the driving range and keeping a supply of range ball buckets in the golf shop.
